About the Hosts
Tene'
Croom, Director of News, is a veteran journalist
who has been reporting, developing and overseeing the news division of American
Urban Radio Networks since 1994. After majoring in English at Knoxville College
in Tennessee, Croom began her broadcast career in 1978 as a disc jockey and
news anchor at WJBE-AM, which was owned and operated by James Brown, the “Godfather
of Soul.” In 1981 she became a general assignment reporter for WIVK-FM
in Knoxville. She also garnered exclusive interviews from the prison assault
trial of James Earl Ray, convicted assassin of slain civil rights leader,
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In 1983, Tene' began her long career with American Urban Radio Networks. After
a short time as an audio journalist, she was promoted to news anchor. As a
news anchor, Croom had the opportunity to do compelling interviews, such as
an exclusive, candid interview with legendary comedian and actor Bill Cosby
regarding the tragic death of his son. After nine years as news anchor, Croom
was promoted to Director of News & Public Affairs. Croom and other executives
from American Urban Radio Networks were present during President Nelson Mandela’s
historic visit and joint press conference with President Bill Clinton at the
White House in 1994. She has developed and maintained strong working relationships
with members of the White House and the Congressional Black Caucus, Jamaican
officials, South African dignitaries, as well as every day people. For all
her reporting, Tene has received a number of media awards and accolades from
the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the Health Education
Center, the New York Festival, the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation (PBMF),
Renaissance Publications and the National Association of Negro Business & Professional
Women’s Clubs. Croom is also a member of the national Radio Television
News Directors’ Association and has served on numerous occasions as a
moderator and panelist during the organization’s annual national convention.

Ty
Miller, Director of Sports for American Urban Radio Networks is
professional, spirited and committed. Ty’s career in broadcasting began
in Boston, MA where he honed his skills as an announcer at WILD-AM. This
Alabama native’s energetic and creative style led him to Pittsburgh,
PA. The football aficionado is the host of the longest running Black College
football show in the nation.
Since 1995, Miller has written, produced and anchored Black College Football
Weekly, where the show has received numerous accolades. A major part of his
work schedule involves helping to organize and host the annual Black College
All-American Awards weekend. In addition, Ty coordinates a national committee
of coaches, sportswriters, sports information directors and broadcasters to
compile AURN’S SBN Black College Football Poll. The poll is recognized
as the leader in ranking Black College Football teams. At season’s end,
Miller becomes the point man in the selection of the Annual Black College All-American
team.
