WHEELING, WV (AURN) -- The school year is coming to a close and high school seniors are anxiously awaiting commencement. Some are immediately entering the work force while others are continuing on to higher education. For Akil Blount, he is planning on hitting the books in college, however his work on the football field is not complete.
Blount is a record setting athlete at Linsly High School
in West Virginia. His play on the football field made him a top recruit for several colleges across the country. On national signing day in February he committed to Florida A&M
to play defense. Blount's high school coach B.J. Depew said the Rattlers are "Going to get a special athlete and an even more impressive young man".
Blount plans to study business and economics.
Akil is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Mel Blount who is also a 2011 Black College Football Hall of Fame inductee. He spent 13 years in the NFL playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers where he was a member of 4 Super Bowl winning teams. Mel was drafted out of Southern University in 1970 and is the founder of the Mel Blount Youth Home of Pennsylvania which will hold its annual All-Star Celebrity Roast
