Father of Trayvon Martin on Capitol Hill

(AURN) -- The parent's of Trayvon Martin are making good on their promise to fight for the rights of young Black boys, as Trayvon's father Tracy travels to D.C. today to speak at a congressional hering addressing the plight of African-American boys. 

Tracy Martin gave opening remarks today at the inaugural hearing of the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys.  Congressman Danny Davis (D- IL) and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton are the co-chairs of the newly formed caucus. 

The title of the hearing is “The Status of Black Males: Ensuring Our Boys Mature Into Strong Men.” Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, David Johns, Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson, and NAACP President and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Kweisi Mfume are expected to serve as witnesses at the hearing.

Earlier this month, neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder in the slaying of Martin's son, 17-year-old Trayvon, who was unarmed.
