(AURN/AP) -- An off-duty, undercover police detective was charged this morning in connection with a motorcycle rally in New York City that escalated into a violent incident involving the driver of an SUV.

32-year old Wojciech Braszczok was arraigned this morning in a Manhattan court.  New York Police Department spokesman John McCarthy says the detective surrendered Tuesday to face riot and criminal mischief charges.

Braszczok's lawyer hasn't immediately responded to phone messages. He has previously said the 10-year NYPD veteran only witnessed other bikers attacking an SUV after it ran over a motorcyclist Sept. 29.

But two people familiar with the investigation say the detective was seen on video hitting and kicking the SUV.

The driver of the SUV and one motorcyclist remain hospitalized as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.
