Mothers Testify Against 'Stand Your Ground'

(AURN) -- Emotional testimony Tuesday from two Florida mothers whose unarmed sons were shot to death.  Sybrina Fulton and Lucia Holman McBath testified during a Senate panel, demanding that "Stand Your Ground" laws be changed.  Fulton is the mother of Trayvon Martin, told a panel of Senators that she wanted to put a face to her son's tragedy.

"I just wanted to come here to ... let you know how important it is that we amend this stand your ground because it certainly did not work in my case," Fulton said. "The person that shot and killed my son is walking the streets today. This law does not work."

McBath's 17-year old son, Jordan Russell Davis was shot and killed by 46-year old Michael Dunn.  Nearly a year ago, Dunn opened fire when Davis and his friends didn't turned their car stereo down at a Florida convenience store, complaining the music was too loud.  Dunn's trial is set for next year.

Stand-your-ground laws are on the books in at least 22 states.  The laws change the legal definition of self-defense for citizens who feel they are in imminent danger, allowing them to act in self-defense.
