Kennedy Center Honors Awarded

(AURN) -- They are considered the crème de la crème of the art world--the Kennedy Center Honors which were awarded to 5 new recipients on Sunday.  Kennedy Center Honors

Billy Joel, Carlos Santana, and Herbie Hancock, and opera star Martina Arroyo were awarded the nation's highest honor for influencing American culture through music, while Shirley MacLaine was honored for her impact on stage and screen.

President Barack Obama saluted the honorees at the White House Sunday night.  The show will be broadcast Dec. 29 on CBS.
