(AURN/(AP) - Senate Democrats have lambasted one of President Obama's picks for a federal judgeship in Georgia for his past votes on abortion and the Confederate flag.

At a hearing Tuesday of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Democrats repeatedly challenged Michael Boggs' votes as a Georgia state legislator. Obama nominated Boggs, now a judge on Georgia's appeal court, to become a federal district judge there.

Democrats focused on his votes to post information online about doctors who perform abortions and to keep the Confederate battle emblem on the Georgia flag.

Boggs said as a state legislator, he was representing his constituents' views. He said he now believes his vote on abortion doctors was wrong, and he's glad the state flag was later changed.

It was unclear whether Boggs' nomination was in peril.
