(AURN) -- The Fire Department of New York's annual 'Calendar of Heroes' is no longer just for big, beefy hunks.

An 11-year female veteran of the force, Danae Mines is featured as Miss March for the 2015 issue, making her the first woman ever to be included.

Danae MinesMines, a South Bronx native, said she was motivated to take part in the calendar to help raise money for the FDNY Foundation and to inspire other women to sign up for the job, and she says pleased with the way her photo came out:

"I love the picture they took, and I love the month. It's Women's History Month."

Mines told the NY Daily News:

"They said if I made it in the calendar, I would look like a pinup girl ... I wasn’t going to let anyone tell me I couldn’t do what I wanted to do. I was determined"
